Beer-Battered Brat Lolipops with Spicy Kraut Mustard

The great folks at Johnsonville recently sent me some of their limited-edition Cheddar Cheese & Bacon brats (available at WalMart), so I came up with this recipe just in time for the big game. These are a great way to serve brats to a crowd in a way that's fun, festive and finger-food-friendly. Most folks know that boiling brats in beer with onions and then grilling them is the traditional preparation.

Beer-Battered Onion Rings

Who doesn't like onion rings? Well, I'm sure that there are plenty of folks that don't, but I'd of course be suspicious of them. These monsters are coated in an amber ale batter that provides a thick but nicely crisp exterior. In fact, they would probably be more aptly named "crunchy onion doughnuts". Sure, making onion rings at home is a bit messy and sort of a pain. I'll admit that these were born of necessity.

Big Bold Barbecued Beef Short Ribs

As I mentioned in an earlier post , I will generally take barbecued beef ribs over pork ribs any day. However, one of the problems with that statement is that it's becoming increasingly difficult for the average Joe (or John) to find standard beef ribs (a.k.a. dino bones) that are worth cooking. The problem is that the meat cutters would rather scallop the meaty goodness out of the ribs as they separate them from the rib primal.
